In this workshop, we will try to map the influence of digital technologies on journalism. Inspired by the exhibition The New Newsroom we will explore how new technologies create opportunities for new stories and change the way we consume news. What happens, for example, when algorithms write the news? And while our filter bubbles seem to increase our biases, maybe VR will help us to re-empathise with the other?

The workshop is a visual debate in which we discuss and speculate on topics like: citizen journalism, fake news factories, Instagram attention span. In the workshop we will work on an insightful map (brain wave) on the subject.

In the workshop, Rogier Klomp & ACED explore new forms of storytelling, in which they combine design and journalism. In the workshop Klomp will share his research on the societal implications of data-driven technologies and guide you through this visual thought experiment. Participants have to bring their own laptop / smartphone / tablet.
